Danish Patrol Vessels: Diana-class

One of the other vessels that we saw in Copenhagen was the Diana-class patrol vessel HDMS Freja (P521).


She is one of the six ships of the class, the others being:
  • HDMS Diana (P520)
  • HDMS Havfruen (P522)
  • HDMS Najaden (P523)
  • HDMS Nymfen (P524)
  • HDMS Rota (P525)
Besides acting as patrol vessels, they class can be used for:
  • Monitoring and maritime policing
  • Peacekeeping
  • Search and Rescue
  • Pollution control
  • Explosive ordnance disposal
The characteristics of the Diana-class are:
  • Displacement: 246 tons
  • Dimensions:
    • Length: 43.0m
    • Beam: 8.2m
    • Draught: 2.0m
  • Propulsion: 2 x MTU 396 16V TB94 Diesel Engines, each driving a propeller
  • Speed: 25 knots
  • Range: 1,000 nautical miles at 15 knots
  • Complement: 12 (with accommodation for an additional 3 if required)
  • Armament: 2 x 12.7mm M2 Browning Heavy Machine Guns
