I have been playing around with ChatGPT again, this time to create images of Sultan Chor Darrai and the Byzantine general Demis Roussos. The results look liked this:
The Seljuk general, Sultan Chor Darrai.
I was rather impressed with the end results, and will probably use this facility again to produce more images of myself (and others) in various roles. The Byzantine general, Demis Roussos.
It's very easy to develop a kind of 'addiction' to ChatGPT. I think it has a place within wargaming in various roles though. I've seen that 'Imaginary Action Figures Playsets' have become 'a thing' on Facebook lately, and I've used it to create some images, not of my self, but based upon, to show different sided of my hobbies.
ReplyDeleteYour images turned out great. I'm looking forward to see other images too.
Roger,
DeleteYou’re right about the addictiveness of ChatGPT. It’s one reason why I have yet to take out a subscription!
These images are certainly useful for wargaming purposes, and I can see myself producing more of them in due course.
All the best,
Bob
Great idea Bob and very nice results.
ReplyDeleteMaudlin Jack Tar,
DeleteCheers! It’s something that I hope to use again in the future.
All the best,
Bob
I seem to recall participating in something similar of facebook several years ago: self as a Viking. It was a much less 'formal' looking portrait: a hard-bitten old rover at the end of a storm ridden venture. I looked way better than me!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Ion
Archduke Piccolo (Ion),
DeleteThat sounds interesting ... and worth copying! Perhaps I ought to see if it will make a portrait of me as a Viking! After all my DNA shows that some of my ancestors came from modern-day Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.
All the best,
Bob
Those look really good. These will enhance many a written narrative. Have you tried creating a large battle scene?
ReplyDeleteWEK 3,
DeleteI have a few ideas for further images … but not battle scenes. Thanks for the suggestion as I think that it might be worth thinking about.
All the best,
Bob
Looks excellent Bob. ChatGPT can be a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteRay Rousell,
DeleteIt was remarkably easy to do … and - in my opinion - a better use of ChatGPT than creating images of doll versions of famous wargamers.
All the best,
Bob
I had an idea not long ago to buy an old gumball machine and fill it with fortunes as if they were written by sci-fi authors. I used Google's Gemini AI to write up hundreds of fortunes then used it to create a decorative insert to advertise my fortune dispensing machine. I was able to create dozens of images of wizards, fortune tellers and other mystics. Some were, by design, mysterious and others comical. I even got a local restaurant to allow me to put my machine near their cash register.
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of harsh attitudes towards using AI creatively, but I was able to use it to actually complete a hare-brained but fun idea and make it reality rather than grind away at it until I got pulled away by more immediate problems of family and life or some other distraction.
Mr. Pavone,
DeleteWhat an interesting project … and one that is ideally suited to the use of AI!
I have heard and read lots of dire warnings about the potential uses and abuses of AI, but as far as I can see, that genie is well and truly out of the bottle, and we aren’t going to get it back in. It seems to me that we would better employ our time finding out what positive and inventive things that it can and cannot do for us rather that merely railing against it.
All the best,
Bob
Bob,
ReplyDeleteI have a board game design that I am taking to CSW Expo for playtesting and public feedback to gauge levels of interest.
As my artistic ability is virtually nil, I have been using ChatGPT to create images of the multitude of character portraits I need for the leader cards that the game relies on for game play.
I think the AI tools have a lot of promise, even when only using the free versions. Strangely, ChatGPT has, at times, taken different prompts from me and given me the same character image, just aged or dressed differently.
The trick, I suppose, is creating completely new requests, instead of remaining with the initial thread. However, in the previous version of ChatGPT, it worked fine just keeping within the same thread as the initial prompt, for receiving entirely different looking characters.
I am interested in learning if your own recent experience with the tool, is similar.
Justin Penworth,
DeleteGood luck with your boardgame design! Using ChatGPT to help you create the graphics for your game makes great sense.
I think that AI, if used sensibly, could be of great assistance to wargamers … especially when generating images of characters, such as the two I’ve asked it to create for Demis Roussos and Chor Darrai.
I am hoping to get ChatGPT to make further character images, initially based on my photograph and then using photos of people that I know.
All the best,
Bob
Bob,
ReplyDeleteYouCam AI Pro does a great job using uploaded photos and creating variations. There is a free option, but I cannot remember if one must pay for it to altar personal photos.
I used it for a selfie and it came out very well indeed. A 10-younger version of myself.
Justin Penwith,
DeleteThat sounds as if it might be a useful application, and I’ll have to investigate it over the coming weekend.
All the best,
Bob
