My Eastern Front/Great Patriotic War collection: Part 6: The unfinished figures are finished … and my mojo is returning!

As I mentioned in an earlier blog post, I discovered a number of figures that I had not finished renovating … but now they are! (It’s worth noting that I also found a small number of German figures that were also unfinished, and these are also shown below.)

The newly-completed figures include:

4 x German Officers (including a metal copy of an original figure from the first Airfix German Infantry box!)

6 x Russian Officers (3 of whom are Naval officers)

4 x Cavalry

13 x Naval Infantry (I have since discovered two more of these figures that need to be completed.)

5 x Infantry in greatcoats and fur hats (Ushanka)

4 x Infantry in tunics and fur hats (Ushanka)

12 x Infantry in tunics and side caps (Pilotka)

17 x Infantry in tunics and helmets

Completing these figures and reading Charles D Winchester’s books has certainly gone a long way to reviving my wargaming mojo … and I am already contemplating adding some more stuff to this collection and fighting some wargames with them.

    1. Roger,

The only problem is that this collection has the potential to become huge ... but working on these figures was really morale-boosting at a time when I was still feeling a bit under the weather from my recent virus/bug.

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. Very nice. Nothing like painting some new figures to get the juices flowing. I find paint to be relaxing and fun in and of itself, and inspirational as well.

    1. Mark Cordone,

Cheers! Basing these figures really go me back into the swing of doing some wargame-related modelling and di much to revive my flagging morale.

  4. Great to see your 'button box sorting' therapy has been a success - I noticed David Crook even gave you a box of his to sort as well! The figures look great, I spotted the vintage Airfix chap. Hope to see some of them in a battle report before too long..?

    1. David in Suffolk,

David Crook's 'box of delights' fills some gaps in my collection, and renovating the figures he passed on to me from the late Eric Knowles' collection will give me something tangible to remind me of Eric's influence on my development as a wargamer.

      All the best,

      Bob

  5. BOB,
Good that you have regained your interest in your Wargames. I've had a game pitching my British naval contingent against the Indian troop- need to have these games to keep the interest going - will Blog about it soon. Regards. KEV.

  6. Glad you're feeling better Bob. These things come in cycles and often the best thing to do is keep occupied and wait it out. Whenever I'm feeling down I find my mood improves a lot when I can get some good time on the trails in the mountains near my home. All it takes is something to occupy your time and the knowledge it'll pass eventually.

    1. Mr. Pavone,

You are right about it coming in cycles; I woke up this morning and the virus/bug had returned ... but not as badly as before.

I'm going to take your advice and take things at a sensible pace and do what I feel up to doing.

      All the best,

      Bob
