Thanks to seller on eBay, I have managed to acquire a second model of a Kongo-class fast battleship to add to my collection of 1:1200th-scale Imperial Japanese Navy warships, ...
(36,601 tons; 30 knots; 8 x 14-inch guns; 14 x 6-inch guns; 8 x 5-inch AA guns; 8 x 25mm AA guns)
… as well as the aircraft carrier, IJNS Kaga.
(38,200 tons; 28 knots; 10 x 7.9-inch guns; 16 x 5-inch AA guns; 22 x 25mm AA guns; 90 aircraft)
At the same time, I acquired a model of Argentinian Navy coastal defence battleship, ANA Libertad
(2,336 tons; 11 knots; 2 x 9-inch guns; 2 x 4.7-inch guns, 4 x 47mm QF guns; 4 x 18-inch torpedo tubes)
Finally, I bought one of KATO's Pocket Line N-gauge locomotives and carriages.
The locomotive isn't powered ... but one of the carriages is!
I hope to give it a test run on my layout later this week.

Nice little train Bob. It seems strange to put the power in a carriage, but as long as they stay together I guess it doesn't matter. Is there any reason for it?

DeleteThe loco is so small that it wouldn’t be possible to put a motor in it, so they use a motorised carriage. (You can buy the motorised chassis online for a very reasonable price.)

ReplyDelete'Winning' auctions sounds strange to me, but I reckon you have a win with these additions to your inventory of kit. I particularly like that IJN Kongo battleship. That one looks eminently scratchbuildable, methinks. An addition, say, to my 'Mighty Armadas' collection - Imperial Ra'esharn Navy.
Not as powerful as my 'Cacadaemon' class, or even Kiivar's 'Leviathan' class: It will (if built) have Protection 9, Striking Power, 7.
(I have a vague notion I blogged an article about this sort of thing...)
But... dare I do so, with far too many other projects hanging fire...?
Meanwhile, the Izumrud-Zeleniyan Navy - the Chernomorskiy Flot - has acquired its own TB flotilla, comprising 4 very tiny torpedo boats, and a surprisingly large destroyer (IZS Grom). So slender was the original, that even 'cartooned' it doesn't look cartooned at all. A really nice-looking vessel.
I do believe now that my Chromatic Wars navies are complete - unless I add some other navies (such as that of Grauheim, Adm von Trippitz...). I reckon with 35 battleships, 8 cruisers and 41 smaller craft the collection is big enough, even though spread among 7 navies!

DeleteI generally look for ‘Buy Now’ items on eBay, but sometimes I will bid on items that are being auctioned. I usually put in a bid that I can afford and then just ‘wait and see’ if I win it.
Many years ago I scratch build all four of the Kongo-class ships for Eric Knowles using the 1:1200th-scale Airfix model of HMS Hood. I also built him a model of the seven-turret HMS Agincourt.
That’s some model ship collection! Mind you, at its current growth rate, my Imperial Japanese Navy collection will rival yours soon.

Nice little loco set Bob, I have seen it running on the Budget Model Railway Railways channel and it's a nice steady runner.
