Really Useful Boxes

Over the past year or so I have been acquiring quite a number of storage boxes from the massive range manufactured by REALLY USEFUL BOXES. My particular favourite is the 4 litre-sized box, mainly because it will take A4-sized paper and card but also because two fifteen-compartment Hobby Trays will fit into it.

Each compartment in the Hobby Tray has enough space to accommodate at least one BATTLE CRY, MEMOIR '44, MEMOIR OF BATTLE, or MEMOIR OF MODERN BATTLE unit of 15mm or 20mm-scale infantry figures, and it is my plan to reorganise my collection so that I can get an 'army' into one or two 4 litre-sized boxes.

This is not as daft as it may sound. I understand that Stuart Asquith has been doing something along these lines for quite a few years ... and as I get older I feel the need to consolidate rather than expand my wargames collection, and this is one way in which I can do that.

  2. Conrad Kinch,

That means I must not have wasted a lot of time recently!

    All the best,

  3. I have been using a lot of the 4 liter boxes myself, with some 9 liter boxes for tall figures. I hadn't realized that stacking interior trays were available; looks like a trip to the office store soon...

  4. Hi Bob
I have been using the usual box file (guaranteed mayhem/damage)approach for..well decades. What is the source for these solutions, and would they be big enough to accommodate more conventional sized 15mm armies?

  6. Rob Dean,

The 4 litre box is probably the most useful in the range, although I do use other sizes as well.

I find the stacking tray to be very useful. Even if you have figures that need the full height of the 4 litre box, a stacking tray in the bottom helps to keep them separated and goes some way to preventing them sliding around.

    All the best,

    Bob

  7. Jack Cruz,

The boxes you have a link to are a bit bigger than I would normally use unless I was moving house. In addition, cardboard only works well in a dry climate ... something that the UK is not enjoying at the moment!

    All the best,

    Bob

  8. Ken H,

I also used to use file boxes, but my wife thought that they looked untidy (she likes things to look tidy, even in my wargames/toy room!). I then moved over to wooden draw units from IKEA ... and they are great unless you want to take your stuff anywhere as they are quite heavy. The REALLY USEFUL BOXES are easy to stack, easy to transport, and look presentable. I buy most of mine from either THE RANGE or HOBBYCRAFT, although they are also sold in a lot of other shops as well.

The 4 litre box is about the same size as an A4 file box, so a straight transfer over from one to the other should not be too difficult.

    All the best,

    Bob

  9. A good choice. My 54mm and 25mm toys all live in these boxes - mostly the 4 litre, but the taller 9-litre version is useful for chaps with long pointy sticks and the like.http://megablitzandmore.blogspot.co.uk/2011/12/funny-little-wars-storage-solutions.html

  10. Tim Gow,

Yet another ringing endorsement! I also have a couple of the 9 litre boxes, and I have found them almost as useful as the 4 litre ones.

    All the best,

    Bob
