A busy day

When I woke up this morning I had nothing much planned ... but in the end it turned out to be a busy day.

After breakfast Sue and I drove to a small retail park in Crayford, Kent. There is a branch of Hobbycraft in the retail park, and whilst I was walking around I saw several possible solutions to my model railway coupling problem. In the end I bought several packs of small metal eyelets in the picture framing section, and I intend to use them to couple my locomotives and rolling stock together.

After lunch I spent some time adding small blocks of Plasticard underneath each of the locomotives and wagons to act as mounting points for the couplings. This took some time, but I had finished this task by 4.30pm, which gave me enough time to get ready to drive Sue and I to our local Underground station.

Earlier in the day I had received an email from Conrad Kinch that informed me that he and his wife were in London, and that they wondered if we could meet up for a drink this evening. Now Sue and I are always happy to meet up with old (or new) friends, and so at 5.00pm we set off to meet them in Clapham. The journey should have taken us about forty five minutes ... but thanks to very heavy traffic in the area near North Greenwich Underground Station (Charlton Athletic Football Club were playing a home game) we were thirty minutes later than expected getting to Clapham. As it was we were not too late to spend a very pleasant couple of hours in a local bar with Conrad and his lovely wife.

So today turned out to be quite a bit busier than I had envisaged it might be when I got out of bed this morning, but that was no bad thing ... and I hope that I will have plenty more such days in the future!

  1. Stu Rat,

Luckily, ever since I retired I have not have to worry much about what I have to do each day. As long as we have food to eat and something to drink, my wife and I can 'veg out' every day ... although the truth is that we always seem to find plenty to do.

I hope that the weather improves soon and that you are enjoying your new job.

    All the best,

    Bob

  2. I started a new job working in an English kindergarten in Tokyo. I'm playing with my kids this weekend, but hope to have a chance to get a game in on the holiday Monday.

  3. Irishhighlander,

Although I worked in education for most of my employed life, working in a kindergarten is not a job that I would want to do. I'd be frightened all the time that I might tread on one of the children! (I am rather large and clumsy!)

Good luck with your forthcoming wargame. It sounds to me as if you have 'earned' it!

    All the best,

    Bob

I like children but I couldn't eat a whole one.

One or two kids mixed within a company of adults is fine but when the kids outnumber the adults I just want to be somewhere else.

If I was looking after kids I would want them to form an orderly queue so could deal with them one at a time.

I am constantly amazed at friends of mine who parent multiple kids or, god forbid, tutor a whole class of them.

  5. Jim Duncan,

I can sympathise with your point of view even though I taught for the best part of 40 years. Mind you, I always had problems with young teachers who told me that they came into the profession because they loved children. My reply was that I liked people - regardless of their age - and advised them to think likewise, otherwise they might find themselves in dangerous waters.

    All the best,

    Bob

  6. Sounds like a delightful day to me. Always (at least so far) a pleasure to meet a fellow wargaming blogger.

  7. Ross Mac,

It was a great day ... and meeting Conrad and Mrs Kinch was the icing on the cake.

    All the best,

    Bob
