Not surprisingly, there are quite a few groups of figures that show the various uniforms worn during the Spanish Civil War.
Although not strictly a Spanish Civil War display, the museum does include models of some of the ex-Republican troops who served in the Free French Army, and who helped to liberate Paris.

I never knew that there were Spanish troops with the Free French Bob. I'll have to find out more about them. Which faction they were from, how they got out of France etc.
ReplyDeleteI do remember an episode of Dad's Army though when a Spanish veteran came to instruct them in guerilla warfare - and that was based on real events.
Nundanket,
DeleteI understand that quite a few were recruited from Republican refugees who had fled to France and been interned. Some managed to avoid being sent back by the Germans and Vichy French, and joined the Resistance, whilst others fled abroad and joined the Free French and British. The Free French were glad to recruit anyone who had combat experience, and who hated the fascists.
It is a relatively unknown story that I must write about one day.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob. I did a bit of superficial digging and scribbled some words over on my blog, but I'm sure you could do the subject more justice. https://horseandmusketgaming.blogspot.com/2019/09/spanish-troops-in-wwii.html
DeleteNundanket,
DeleteI look forward to reading what you have written, which I'm sure will be excellent.
All the best,
Bob
