My latest book sales figures

For some reason I have not looked at the sales figures for my books for two months.

Back at the beginning of October, they looked like this:

The past two months – October and November – has seen sales continue to grow somewhat slower than they had been growing for the previous two months:

As I predicted the last time I wrote about my sales figures, it looks as if they will eventually reach six thousand at some point in the next six months ... or possibly even earlier.

  1. That's looking impressive. The ebook numbers are interesting, -do you have a breakdown by region?

    1. Trebian,

I’ve been more successful than I ever hoped to be.

What I find interesting is that the paperbacks have outsold the ebooks ... although I understand that quite a few people buy the ebook, like what they’ve read, and then buy the paperback or hardback edition.

I can do a breakdown by region, but as most of the sales are in the UK, USA, and other English-speaking countries I’ve never bothered. Perhaps I ought to.

      All the best,

      Bob

    2. The regional sales look like mine. Just interested in the Australians and Kiwis, as they can't get hard copy Amazon printed books. I prefer printed rules, so you can put them on a table, and I wondered how that behaviour is mirrored elsewhere.

    3. Trebian,

It is my understanding that Amazon print the copies of my books that they sell rather than buy them in ready-printed from Lulu. As I sell books via Amazon to Australia and New Zealand, I don’t understand why Amazon cannot supply printed copies of your book to those countries.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Jonathan Freitag,

The books have sold well ... but the income I’ve received has not - and never will - make me wealthy, thanks in no small part to the money held back by Lulu to pay the IRS.

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. Well done. I wonder if the success of self published rules is down to some dis=satisfaction with the commercial rules available. Obviously not including the gridded wargames or Madasahatta

    1. Khusru,

I suspect that you might be right. I am often struck by the fact that many sets of commercial rules are short on real content and long on illustrations ... many of which are included for the ‘eye candy’ value.

      All the best,

      Bob

  4. Interesting comments in respect of hardbacks to the antipodes. I've bought my PW volumes direct from Lulu, all hardbacks. No problem at all. After a small glitch the first time, the service from Lulu has been very good indeed.

Note to prospective authors - I'd prefer to buy from Lulu on the strength of their user-friendly service.

    1. Archduke Piccolo,

I cannot understand why Amazon are unable to supply hard copies of books published by them to customers in Australia and New Zealand when Lulu can.

Lulu do seem to have improved their service over the past year or so ... and they certainly pay authors better than Amazon do.

      All the best,

      Bob

  5. I can claim responsibility for a couple ebook sales recently. I picked up your Napoleonic wargarules Portablein PDF format and your When Empires Clash and Portable Wargame from Lulu last week.
I like your rules but I do prefer a PDF copy over the Adobe Digital Editions. I was able to print out the chapters of rules for the Napoleonic set for quick and easy reference.
I don't regret buying your publications and the variety of formats is great for your readers but more PDFs would be great. I'd even pay a little more for them if I had that ability to print only the pages I need.
    Congrats on your success!

    1. Mr. Pavone,

Thanks very much for buying copies of my books.

Funnily enough, it is much easier to publish a book in PDF format than as an eBook, as the latter requires all sorts of adjustments to make the files suitable. The only downside is that Amazon etc., cannot sell publications in PDF format, whereas Lulu can.

I am going to look at moving over to PDF format for all my future books, so hopefully you'll be able to buy them as well.

      All the best,

      Bob
