A rotten summer cold!

Almost as soon as the hot weather of the last week abated, I began to experience the early symptoms of the common cold, and by yesterday it had developed into a full-blown one.

I tried doing some work on both redrafting the latest version of my Eastern Front/Great Patriotic War rules and adding more text the P17CW book, but I found concentrating somewhat difficult, and in the end, I gave up trying. Instead, I did some much-needed sorting out in my toy/wargame room.

With luck, the cold will go as quickly as it came. At least the symptoms aren’t the same as those for COVID-19, so unless the KCL monitoring project that I am taking part in asks me to take a test, I’ll just carry on as best I can with a box of tissues, some aspirin, and a hot drink close to hand.

      I hate colds at the best of times, but those that come during the summer always seem to be more depressing. Luckily, I have lots of DVDs I can watch and recorded books that I can listen to,

    Sorry to hear you've come down with a heavy cold- nothing worse than feeling under the weather. Resting up with some good books and enjoy some DVD's too is the way to go - give it a couple of days and the worst of it will be over. Warmer here today without the rain too - Doctors tomorrow and hoping for a remedy for my Lethargy- been painting Regiments yesterday and today for my 18mm Imaginations and avoiding sleeping through the day.       Cheers! I hope to spend today watching DVDs and listening to recorded books ... probably interspersed with the odd doze!

      It was good to read that your weather has improved, and that you’ve managed to do some painting. I hope that your doctor manages to find out what is causing your lethargy, and that he can get you back on your feet as quickly as possible.

      I really ought to take some sort of multi-vitamin supplements as well, as I understand that these can help prevent one catching rotten summer colds!

      Things would be more bearable if the Test Match wasn’t constantly being interrupted by rain!

      Thank God for DVDs and recorded books! From my point of view, the choice of TV programmes on Freeview on Sunday is rather limited ... although I can still find thing to watch on the Talking Pictures channel.

      It’s almost time for my next aspirin and hot drink ... and a short doze!

      You may well be right! I did feel very drained after our recent heatwave, mainly because I was lucky if I managed to get more than two hours of continuous sleep each night. I seemed to spend my days wandering about half asleep ... and then tossing and turning for hours on end in bed.

  5. G'Day Bob, a hot toddie works wonders, Bushmills Irish Whiskey, Lemon juice, honey & a drop of hot water (not to many drops).

      Thanks for the advice. I can hack the lemon and honey, but as much as I used to like Black Bush, I find that drinking alcohol makes me ill. (I caught a virus many years ago that has left me with an allergy to even small quantities of alcohol.)

  6. Hi Bob. Lots of it around at the moment, I'm surrounded by it - wife, daughters, grand children but so far I'm OK. All the same (non Covid) symptoms, sore throats, runny noses etc. Hope you feel better soon, you do seem prone to the colds and flu Bob.

      My wife has also developed the symptoms, and I understand that a couple of my neighbours are also suffering from summer colds.

      Having worked in education for many years, I seemed to develop a degree of immunity from colds and flu, but since I retired, I seem to catch everything that is going. Hopefully this will pass as quickly as it arrived.

      At least it isn’t COVID-19 ... which would have been far, far worse.

    I get them too, or did until I took 500mg Quercetin, 25mg zinc, and 1000mg Vitamin C, daily.

    I take it immediately after I start to feel the first symptoms and it knocks the cold right out of me.

    It is all over the counter, here and even if taken daily for long-term, the bottles last me 6 months or more.

    It may well be protection against the flu, according to my doctor, so I will be using this through the end of flu season, here.

    I'm not a dr, just sharing what works well for me.

      I used to take a daily multi-vitamin supplement, and really ought to do so again. It certainly won’t do any harm, and may well help mitigate the impact of colds and flu.
