Arriba Espana! (Second Edition): A progress report

Work on the latest edition of ARRIBA ESPANA! is progressing well. I have re-typeset the original text, and I am currently working on the additional text I want to add. This will include a specific set of PORTABLE WARGAME rules for the Spanish Civil War that will draw upon elements and mechanisms from the earlier rules. These include political allegiances, commander competency, air superiority, and air attacks, and are intended to present players with the sort of problems the commanders faced during the conflict. I also hope to include a number of scenarios for small tabletop battles that can be used with the rules, thus making the new edition a much better book than the original.

    1. Simon,

If I decide to publish using Amazon’s KDP system, it will be available in printed and Kindle formats. If I use Lulu.com, it will be available in printed and PDF formats. I have not chosen which route to use as yet, although I am tending towards choosing the former rather than the latter.

      All the best,

      Bob

    2. Thanks Bob - although to be honest, I find PDF better as you can print pages as required!

      Kind regards

  2. Bob,
This will be another great addition to the PW stable.
If I can be of service proof-reading, you have but to ask.
    Good luck with it!
    Best wishes,

  3. Great news Bob, I've got an original copy of the book and can't wait for the new edition, my CTV need another outing.
Would there be any space for a small appendix on the Chaco War? Tiny tanks, variable troops fun aircraft, even gunboats.
    Cheers

The new edition will have a lot more in it than the original did … and if I have the time to write it and the space to include it, a Chaco War supplement might just get squeezed in.

      All the best,

      Bob

I never thought of using my Chaco War counters for PW … but that makes lots of sense! Thanks very much for.sharing the idea!

Working on a new book always helps to raise my spirits, and this is no exception.

      All the best,

  5. Pardon me if this is off topic but did you write the rules for the Dardenelles campaign in the Wargames World #2 Christmas issue? That and the quick Pre-Gunpowder Skirmish Rules by Chris Peers were two of my earliest historical wargaming experiences. I've played your game back when I was 16 or so!
I discovered this just now while trying to find out who M. Bishop is. He had written an article about morale and the effectiveness of individuals in modern combat. Any clue who that might be? I'm looking for another set of rules he mentioned in the article.
Finally, I'd totally purchase a PDF copy of your Arriba Espana second edition rules

    1. Mr. Pavone,

I’ll have to check, but I did write a submarine game set in the Dardanelles … but I’m not sure if it was published in WARGAMES WORLD #2.

The name M Bishop doesn’t ring any bells with me, but if I come across him, I’ll let you know.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Martin Rapier,

I’m writing a number of small scenarios to go with the PSCWW rules in the book. Once that is done, all that will remain to do before publication is to have the text proofread.

      All the best,

      Bob
