Back home

A couple of hours ago, Sue and I got back from a cruise to Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. We really needed a break after coping with my health problems for nearly eight months, and although we have arrived home feeling rather tired (we had to get up at 6.30am to be ready to disembark at 8.00am), we both feel much more relaxed and ready to deal with what life throws at us over then few months.

On Monday I have an appointment with an oncology radiotherapist to be assessed as to whether or not they think that radiotherapy will be the best way to deal with the cancer that is in my lymph nodes now that my prostate cancer is pretty well dormant. If they do opt for this treatment, I may well have to undergo radiotherapy five days a week for four to eight weeks, and this will dominate my life whilst it takes place …so I’ll carry on blogging as best I can, when I can. In the meantime, I have two-weeks-worth of other people’s blogs the read (thank God for a Feedly!) as well of loads of other things to catch up with!

PS. I will be writing a ‘I have been to’ blog post as soon as I can as well as two photo reports of the military museums in Coruna and Cartagena.

  1. You've come back to good weather at least! Tee-shirt weather out walking earlier.
Looking forward to reading about your trip.

    1. Nundanket,

The weather might not be too bad in the UK for the time of year, but it was considerably warmer in Spain and Morocco! I’d almost forgotten how much the warmth from the sun can make one feel so much better.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. Glad you got a good break, Bob. What happened to idea of giving yourself another type of rest, and refrain from blogging !! Sounds like you will need to take a break if radiotherapy follows. Look after yourself. The blogging can be both burden and release. All best. Carl, upp norfff....

    1. Carl,

It was great to have a change on environment … and the feel of the sun’s warmth is so invigorating!

As I think I wrote at the time, I decided to try not to blog every day, and to only blog when I felt that I had something that I wanted to write about.

      All the best,

      Bob

The cruise has done me no end of good, and has proven to me that I can live with my prostate problem.

I’m not sure if they will be able to use radiotherapy on the cancer in my lymph nodes as their location is higher up than normal. The decision as to whether or not they can use it may come down to the results of a CT scan.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Mark Cordone,

Thanks for your kind words of support. I’ve heard a few horror stories about radiotherapy, but if it is the best treatment for my condition, I’ll go for it.

I hope to finish writing my ‘I have been too …’ blog post over the next day or so.

      All the best,

      Bob

  8. I'm glad you both got away for a nice break and at least were not on a Covid plague ship, like the one that has docked in Australia with 800 cases on it! The sun does cheer you up no end and at times I do miss the 10 months a year of blue skies in Nigeria that does lead to a much cheerier disposition. Rare there to see a day without and sun at all.

All the best moving forward on the cancer front and fingers crossed that whatever treatment is required is effective and bearable.

    1. Steve J.,

Luckily for us, P&O have lots of protocols in place to ensure that anyone with COVID doesn’t get aboard if at all possible, and that if an outbreak does occur, it is contained rapidly.

The sun can be very reinvigorating, and helps the body produce vitamin D … which has many health benefits. Over recent months, the sky in our part of the UK seems to have been in a constant state of grey cloud … so seeing the sun was very welcome.

Thanks for your continued best wishes and support; it is much appreciated.

      All the best,

      Bob
