The ‘Nostalgia’ Project – my decision … sort of!

Having spent some time thinking about what to do next about my ‘Nostalgia’ project.

Firstly I have decided to continue with the ‘Nostalgia’ project, but over a longer timescale. I will continue to collect the necessary models and figures, and may even make some prototype vehicles and ships. I will not, however, start serious work on the project for at least several months.

Secondly I have decided to finish the back-history of Laurania that I started some time ago. This also includes a guide to the Latinate language of Laurania. I will also draw up an outline of the Lauranian armed forces during the 1930s for future reference, as they may well make a good enemy – or ally – for the Opelanders at some time in the future.

All I have to do now is stick to my decisions!

  1. Sticking to decisions concerning any wargames project is an art all of its own......;-)

For the 1930s set up I guess that the SCW will provide some additional inspiration, bearing in mind your long interest in the period. Either way, it looks like a lot of fun.

  2. Dispersion -Ach! Gross Malheur!- the bane of many wargamers. So it would be excellent to have Laurania and Opeland somehow interlinked: better return from any investment in any one of them, mutual stimulation and inspiration, &c...

  3. Glad to hear Laurania carries on - your report on the battle of Turga was one of the first things of yours I read, and the way I found your blog!

I was having a look over your old Laurania posts, as a kind of 'retrospective' thing, and really liked your maps - can I ask a dull-but-worthy question about how you drew them? I always have to hand-draw mine, which can be quite time-consuming!

  4. Ogrefencer,

The SCW might well inspire part of the forthcoming 'history' of Laurania; just wait and see!

    All the best,

  5. abdul666,

I suspect that linking the two may well become part of a larger project ... an imagi-nation variation of minor 'powers' in mid-20th century Europe.

    All the best,

  6. CWT,

My Laurania maps were drawn using some very simple programs ... Serif Photoplus and MS Paint!.

What I actually began with was a map of Albania that I download from the Internet. I them distorted it so that it was the same height as before but double the width (using Photoplus). I also increased its basic size so that it was 34cm x 37cm.

I then removed all the extraneous detail, and drew in the administrative district boundaries based on the Albanian district boundaries. I then added the locations of towns and cities (again based on the location of real towns in Albania), the mountains, the rivers and railways, then the roads, and finally the place names.

Perhaps I ought to show the processes I used as a blog entry so that others can do the same.

What do you think of that as an idea?

    All the best,

    Bob

  7. Sounds good to me as an idea, Bob! I always think these 'how-to' posts are very good, although naturally bloggers can't do them all the time. I'll keep an eye out in future, although obviously I'll not expect anything right away as you're once again off cruising the high seas! Enjoy!

  8. CWT,

Actually I got back from my cruise yesterday!

I hope to add the 'how to' (with illustrations) later today ... so keep reading!

    All the best,

    Bob
