Turrets Syndrome

I am still unsure whether to build some pre-dreadnoughts or some inter-war dreadnoughts next ... but one thing that I do know is that whatever I choose, I will need some gun turrets. I have therefore spent some time today building a batch of eight gun turrets.

By building them as a batch rather than as a series of 'one offs' I have been able to set up a sort of production line. This has speeded up the building process no end, and whichever option I decided upon, I will have cut the time it will take me to turn an idea into a finished design and completed model.

Good luck with your decision making.

  2. Peter Douglas,

I wondered if anyone would spot it ... mind you, there were one or two involuntary swear words used when the cat jumped onto my modelling table and knocked some of the turrets off whilst the glue was drying!

    All the best,

  3. Puns aside Bob I would expect that given the cartoon style you have chosen it won't really matter.

If a slightly more sensible form of yourself turns up then pre-dreadnoughts are the way to go as their battle gunnery ranges are so much shorter and this will look much better on your tabletop.

  4. Jim Duncan,

It is nice to hear from you!

I want to keep the length of the models to no more than 8"/20cm (the width of two Hexon II hexes) and I don't think that I can fit four turrets on that length of hull ... so it looks like the models will be limited to two turrets each.

    All the best,

    Bob

  5. Hi Bob,

For the reason to mentioned to Jim creating a dreadnought style of ship using the 4" single Hexon tile is nigh on impossible!

Pre dread and earlier only methinks for the single tile approach.

  6. David Crook,

It is NOT nigh on impossible ... it IS impossible!

It is actually quite difficult to build a reasonable model of a pre-dreadnought on an 8"/20cm-long hull (i.e. one that will fit into two Hexon II hexes), and impossible to built a dreadnought. As you will see from my next blog entry, I have decided to stick to the 8"/20cm limit and pre-dreadnoughts.

    All the best,

    Bob
