The Cat and The Conservatory

In response to Conrad Kinch’s request for a photograph of our cat – who is now the proud owner of a newly refurbished conservatory – her she is:

Her name is Jazz, and she came to live with us some years ago when she decided that she did not want to share the home where she was then living with other cats. She is the fifth cat that has owned us … and is by far the most temperamental. (Some unkind souls might just say that she was mental … but we could not agree with that!).

You will note that I wrote that she ‘ is the fifth cat that has owned us’. Those of you who are cat people will already know what I mean, but for those of you who are not and never have been, here are a few quotes that might explain my comment:
  • 'Thousands of years ago, cats were worshipped as Gods. Cats have never forgotten this.' – Anonymous
  • 'Dogs believe they are human. Cats believe they are God.' – Anonymous
  • 'In a cat's eye, all things belong to cats.' – English proverb
  • 'As every cat owner knows, nobody owns a cat.' – Ellen Perry Berkeley

As proof that the conservatory is now finished, here are some photographs of it in all its completed glory:

  1. Hi Bob

Very nice indeed - the cat has chosen wisely.

Having recently rescued a stray we are discovering the joys of cat dominance, too.

    Regards.

  2. Arthur,

The cat certainly has good taste in terms of decor and layout ... but is unwilling to help or to pay!

Good luck with your (voluntary) submission to the feline race.

    All the best,

    Bob

P.S. Have you ever noticed that cat's eyes are just like the ones that aliens are always depicted as having? I am sure that it is a reflection of something subliminal in the human mind.

  3. Hey Bob,

The conservatory and the cat are both great additions to your home and family. Best of luck with both.

P.S. My can gave me permission to write the above.

  6. Archduke Piccolo,

Thanks for your very kind comment. We wanted to create a room that felt warm and welcoming as we want to use it all year around.

    All the best,

    Bob

P.S. The cat is currently sitting on the futon, basking in the sunlight that is streaming through the glass roof of the conservatory.

  7. The conservatory looks great!

I heard a snippet on the radio about a recent discovery about a parasite whose cycle includes cat litter and rats. Rats who have cleaned up the litter so to speak get infested and then lose their instinctive fear of cats and lnstead become attracted. Recent tests have shown that many humans have traces of the same parasites.
I asked our 4 house cats about it and they just looked at me enigmatically and walked away.

Those eyes, man it's not subliminal; they are the real deal.

    Be afraid, very afraid!

It's why I question the adoption placement as random..

  9. Ross Mac,

Many thanks for your complimentary comments about our conservatory.

A parasite that makes cats attractive to humans and rats? Sounds like an April Fool story to me, except that I know that humans and rats can become infected with toxoplasmosis, and that rats and mice who are infected become easier prey for cats. I also know that there is a theory that it can affect human behaviour.

    All the best,

    Bob

  10. No doubt the cat adopted you because she is interested in Pawtable Wargames...

  11. Arthur,

Cats do seem to have the ability to look at one in a way that is unlike the way any other animal looks at one. It is very, very off-putting at times.

Cats definitely choose humans, and not the other way around. So much for the concept of free choice.

    All the best,

    Bob

  12. Arthur1815,

    Don't give up the day-job!

That was a terrible pun ... even worse than most of mine.

    All the best,

    Bob

  13. Hi Bob,

I am quite sure that Arthur1815 was feline particularly pleased with his pun and so I have added my own to the Catalogue....;-)

    All the best,

Aargh! The puns are getting worse! This is turning into a catastrophe! :^)

  16. Well done one the conservatory. The cat is splendid - though I feel she is crying out for a bow tie.

  17. Your cat reminds me of a cat I used to know (in a good way).

The conservatory has turned out very well! Your hard work has paid off.

  18. Conrad Kinch,

We are very pleased with the way the conservatory turned out.

I am sure that the cat would love to wear a bow tie. You can have the pleasure of putting it on her if you ever visit. (Stout leather gloves will be provided and a fully safety briefing given.)

    All the best,

    Bob

  19. Fitz-Badger,

She is a small cat, but has lots of personality. She also 'talks' to us quite a bit ... but I have yet to understand much of what she says.

The conservatory took a lot more time and effort to get sorted out than we expected, but the end result is much better than we had hoped ... and we are very pleased with it.

    All the best,

    Bob
