My fourth batch of renovated 20mm-scale Russian figures

The fourth batch of Russian 20mm-scale World War II figures from my collection that have been renovated, varnished, and re-based were all manufactured by Britannia Miniatures.

I now hope to start work on renovating some of the Axis figures in my collection.

  1. Bob,
Very neat work there on your 20mm Russians- it will be good to see the Russians and Axis Troops in a scenic- WW2 game setting in the future. I've had a good day myself-scratch modelling. Best Wishes. KEV.

    1. Kev Robertson (Kev),

Thanks very much for your kind comment. I'm finding the process of renovating, varnishing, and re-basing my 20mm-scale figures very therapeutic ... and by going for an 'Old School' look, the collection seems to look more uniform, even if the figures are not all the same height or build.

I look forward to hearing more about your scratch-building project.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. Why individual basing Bob? I see the benefits, but I was curious.

    1. Stephen Briddon,

A very sensible question considering that all my recent rules have featured multi-figure bases.

The underlying reason is flexibility. I can use magnetic or sabot bases if I want to use the figures for MEGABLITZ or HEXBLITZ and the PW rules were written for both single figure and multi-figure bases. I can also use the figures with AIRFIX BATTLES (of which I have a copy) and some of the 'Old School' rules that adorn my bookshelves.

Another - and less obvious reason - is due to my planning for my next book. I hope to write a PORTABLE COLONIAL WARGAME book ... and the majority of Colonial wargamers have collections of single figure bases. As the book will cover wargames that feature both multi-figure and single figure bases, I thought that it made sense to migrate all my 20mm-scale stuff (which includes a few Colonial figures) over to single figure bases.

I hope that all makes sense!

      All the best,

      Bob

There are a stack of them in my storage boxes ... along with some KV-1s.

      All the best,

      Bob
