  1. Good issue - couldn't wait for the posted version so I went online
Ah the Indian Mutiny .. what's not to like about Colonials!

Hope to see more on-side reports coming in soon
There was certainly plenty to talk about!

    1. Geordie an Exile FoG,

It was an excellent game, and it's not a war that is often refought on the tabletop.

I hope that you enjoy the rest of the issue.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. Yes, sorry was focusing selfishly on the game I played, it was another goof issue

Personally I found the Somme was a hard one to read with references to "The Pals", but don't get me wrong it was played in good taste and respective reverence. I believe [at least it was passed down through my parents as thus] my Grandfather fought with the DLI on the Somme and took a stomach wound [light duties thereafter but did managed to get gassed twice] so that made me somehow averse from participating [plus there was a timetable clash]. Must get involved with one of Tim's lawn games next year.

I will have to try the "Buckle with your Swash" skirmish rules - more Film than historical ;)

Although I didn't make John Curry's talk I managed to hear his Connections UK 2018 version So I can catch up with you at next CoW to discuss.

    1. Geordie an Exiled FoG,

What lawn battles like the Somme one make you realise is just how difficult - nay almost impossible - it is to capture a heavily defended enemy trench line without suffering very high casualties. If - as H G Wells suggested in LITTLE WARS - generals and politicians had seen how difficult and wasteful such attacks were by fighting tabletop wargames, perhaps they would not have thought such tactics were such a good idea.

My grandfather also served on the Western Front and lost relatives at Gallipoli. I only heard him speak about his experiences once ... and that was to say that it was f**king awful.

Next year's lawn game will be set during the SCW, and I expect to see lots of political infighting amongst the players, with some naturally gravitating to one side or the other.

      All the best,

      Bob

I shall try and sign up for that (or the "Space Spider?")

    1. Geordie an Exile FoG,

It's actually not that long before COW2019; just a mere four months.

      All the best,

      Bob
