The El Tub and the Thomas Cook have now been painted, and look like this:
In truth, they are too large for the size of the River Nile as depicted on the terrain for 'Carry On up the Nile!', but I wanted models that were about right and that could be used in other wargames.
Whilst I was constructing these two models, I also built and painted a small church or chapel. It has exactly the same footprint as the mosque that I built for 'Carry On up the Nile!' so that it can be substituted for the latter in games set in a hot climate where Christianity is the main religion (e.g. Spain, Mexico, South and Central America).

Great stuff Bob and look forward to seeing all the elements come together for the game.
ReplyDeleteSteve J.,
DeleteCheers! The game where all the elements will be used will be taking place on Saturday evening at COW, and I'll be writing a battle report afterwards.
All the best,
Bob
Like that church. Must admit I'm not sure about the colour scheme of the boats - but that's just personal preference.
ReplyDeleteRob Young,
DeleteI'd originally planned to give the Thomas Cook a black hull, but decided against doing so for the time being. The deck colour could be lighter, and actually looks darker in the photos than it does in real life. I may repainting it when the opportunity arises.
All the best,
Bob
I really like these but am struggling to avoid using the word 'cute' even if using it as a compliment.
ReplyDeleteThis should be a memorable game.
Ross Mac,
DeleteCalling them 'cute' is fine by me ... because like you, I think that they are.
I'm looking forward to the game, which will take place in just over four weeks.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob,
ReplyDeleteWell done there on the two splendid vessels and church- all painted up nicely. Looking forward to reading your COW Report on the presentation and play of 'Carry On Up The Nile'.Regards. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteThe models have turned out quite nicely, and I'm looking forward to using them at COW in a month's time.
All the best,
Bob
Nice work on the boats and church!
ReplyDeleteAs for scale, being true to scale is overrated, as I'm sure you know. Now say "toy boat" three times, fast. :)
Fitz-Badger,
DeleteCheers!
I've never quite understood why many wargamers are quite willing to accept that a battalion can be represented on the tabletop by twelve figures, but then insist that the buildings they are using in the same wargame have to be to the same scale as the figures.
I like my toys to look as nice as they can and don't look too out-of-place when together on the tabletop.
All the best,
Bob
