The first batch of renovated artillery pieces I have completed will be allocated to my Prussian Napoleonic army.
I have repainted them so that the gun carriages are Cerulean Blue, which is the closest colour I could find to the colours featured in the reference pictures that I had.
These guns will replace the existing mixture of Del Prado British and French artillery pieces in my Napoleonic Prussian army, which will now be allocated to other formations within my collection.

Very nice and the gloss lacquer really makes the barrels really stand out.
ReplyDeleteSteve J.,
DeleteCheers! Considering how old the models are (approximately fifty years old), they’ve turned out even better than I had hoped,
All the best,
Bob
Very smart Bob - regarding varnishing, do you use a spray varnish? I have only started varnishing recently and find that the spray cans stop working before they are empty. Any advise?
ReplyDeleteMaudlin Jack Tar,
DeleteCheers! I brush on my varnish as I find that the sprays tend to be too expensive and too short lived. They also tend to stink the house out if used indoors!
I use inexpensive nylon brushes to paint on the Humbrol Gloss varnish. They clean up quite easily after use, and last reasonably well. I put on a couple of thin coats of varnish in order to ensure good coverage ... and it seems to protect the figures from the effects of normal handling and the occasional knock the might receive during a battle.
All the best,
Bob
Thanks Bob - I haven't tried the brush on varnish before but I think I'll give it a go.
DeleteMaudlin Jack Tar,
DeleteGive it a try. If nothing else, it should certainly work out cheaper than using spray cans.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob,
ReplyDeleteNicely done there with the re-furbished Artillery for the Prussians. A lot to be gained from updating older models that may have seen better days- good to restore things. Cheers. KEV.
Kev Robertson,
DeleteCheers! I did consider buying some new model guns for my Prussian artillery, but the old models I had were suitable ... and I’m of an age when I like to reuse stuff if I can.
All the best,
Bob
Nicely refurbished guns Bob :)
ReplyDeleteTamsinP,
DeleteCheers ... but they’re not quite in the same league as your recent output as seen on Facebook!
All the best,
Bob
Nice job Bob! Positively Foyesque. Especially with the bases.
ReplyDeleteReusing old models is also much more sustainable. Very on trend. ;-)
Nundanket,
DeleteCheers! I’m rather pleased with the way they have turned out.
As I get older, I seem to find renovating and reusing things that have been languishing in my collection very pleasurable ... and it saves me money as well!
All the best,
Bob
Very pretty, but can they fight?
ReplyDeleteSteve8,
DeleteI hope so ... I really hope so!
All the best,
Bob

ReplyDeleteGeordie an Exiled FoG,
DeleteLuckily these are 25/38mm-scale!
