Pre-cut wooden house shapes

Whilst looking online for some pre-cut wooden house shapes to go with my 15mm Belle Époque project, I came across a company (Holdumann’s Workshop, Dorchester) that sold suitable shapes made from pine.

I bought examples of Village In A Box (Smaller Size: fourteen pieces, ranging in height from 35mm to 65mm; approximately 19mm thick and 25mm wide), ...

... Village In A Box (Larger Size: eight pieces, ranging in height from 40 to 90mm, approximately 33mm wide and deep), ...

... and Village In A Box (Wider Size: eight pieces, ranging in height from 45mm to 85mm; approximately 19mm thick and 35mm wide).

I intend to add windows, doors, and other minor details before painting them.

  1. BOB,
Good to receive these pre-cut wooden house blocks- you'll have a lot of enjoyment decorating them for your 15mm. In the past I've done a lot of cutting and disc sanding of wood in my shed - saw dust everywhere which is a huge problem...now when I cut wood and sand something I've got to cover everything up with old linen sheets to keep the dust at bay. Best Wishes. KEV.

    1. Kev Robertson (Kev),

I could have easily made my own wooden house shapes … but although I have the skill, I don’t have the necessary equipment. It was cheaper to buy the shapes ready done than to buy the wood, a suitable saw, a plane, a sander etc.

Furthermore, I would have had do make mine outside in the garden as I don’t have a shed and my wife would have quite rightly killed me if I had made them indoors.

      All the best,

      Bob

    2. StuRat,

      Aren’t they very expensive?

      All the best,

  2. My thumbs are always a little happy when I see stuff like this available to hobbyists. Every time I start up my table saw to cut wood, my thumbs get a little nervous LOL.

    1. Mr. Pavone,

These things are a great boon, especially to those of us who are not necessarily great woodworkers.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Syl,

Thanks for your comment. For some reason the link you included didn’t work, but with a bit of lateral thinking, I translated it into French (https://lesfigsdesyl.blogspot.com/2020/10/astuces-villes-et-villages-en-bois.html) and it worked!

The examples in that blog post show how, with a bit of clever thinking and a few deft touches, these little model buildings can be considerably improved. Thanks for sharing this with me and my regular blog readers.

      All the best,

      Bob
