It is a very long time since I made a model kit, but recently I bought a Faller kit from an eBay seller.
The model is one that was first introduced by Faller in 1965(!) and it has the code number B-924 and is named 'Old-town block'. The box looks like this:
I found photographs of the complete kit on the Faller website and I think that this will make a great basis for the capital of one of my Belle Époque imagi-nations.
I hope to put this kit together over the next week or so ... and by doing so I will able to feel as if I have made some progress on my Belle Époque project.
The Faller kits always look suitably Ruritainian I think.
ReplyDeleteThe Good Soldier Svjek,
DeleteI already have quite a few Faller (and similar buildings from continental manufacturers) in my collection, and the certainly have a Central European feel about them. I only wish that they weren’t so expensive!
All the best,
Bob
Very nice looking models indeed.
ReplyDeleteMaudlin Jack Tar,
DeleteI was originally attracted by the box art and then by the eBay price!
All the best,
Bob
The Faller, Kibri etc German model railway buildings always look nice.
ReplyDeleteNeil
Neil Patterson,
DeleteI don't think that we quite have anything to match them in the UK.
All the best,
Bob
BOB,
ReplyDeleteVery nice Faller buildings which will do nicely for your Belle Epoque battles- ideal for a Capitol setting. Hope your doing well re: Mobility. Can see you enjoying putting the Faller kit together. Best Wishes. KEV.
Kev Robertson (Kev),
DeleteI've always thought that these continental model railway building kits were excellent, and this kit contains several buildings that can be arranged together to make a town centre that is ideal for my Belle Époque project.
As to my mobility ... well, I began a new set of exercises today that are designed to improve my coordination, increase my muscle strength, and enhance my currently very limited endurance.
All the best,
Bob
That’s a great kit. I built one very much like it back in the days. Worked well with 15mm armies.
ReplyDeletePeter Douglas,
DeleteI seem to have got a lot of kit for my money ... and looking at the bits I have so far begun to put together, it looks as if it will work well with my 15mm figures.
All the best,
Bob
When complete, you might call it "Belle Ville"
ReplyDeleteEd M.,
DeleteA great suggestion! Thanks for making it.
All the best,
Bob
I love Faller buildings Bob, I have several they work great for 28mm gaming. Smaller foot fall that looks correct on the table when using 28/30mm figures.
ReplyDeleteWillz.
Tiberian general (Willz),
DeleteI've never used Faller buildings with anything larger than 20mm figures ... but I can see no reason why they would not work just as well with larger figures.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob
ReplyDeleteI remember buying a Faller Bavarian house when I was in Germany in the early 1970s. But they were much too expensive on my army salary as a Lance Corporal. So I bought a large collection of paper houses instead. They came in quite thin card sheets. They were very cheap, about one mark per sheet, which had three or four houses on each one. They have moved all around the world with me, and are still on the shelf in my wargames room. I must put some photos on my blog sometime.
Thanks for the photo, it brought back a flood of happy memories of much simplier days.
regards
Paul
Thistlebarrow (Paul),
DeleteI bought mine from a local model shop (now long gone) when they were not too expensive. I never tried constructing card buildings after a bad experience with a model railway one that warped very badly. Mind you, I’ve seen plenty built by other wargamers that looked wonderful after many years of use.
All the best,
Bob
A good assortment of buildings there Bob. Hope you got them for a good price. Definite 'the Wargame' vibes coming off those.
ReplyDeleteNundanket,
DeleteThe whole lot cost me £22.00 plus postage, which I thought was a bit of a bargain for the number of buildings in the kit.
All the best,
Bob
That does sound good for the number of buildings.
DeleteNundanket,
DeleteI keep looking to see if there are any more bargains like this … but I’ve not found any as yet!
All the best,
Bob
Bob - They just look great, don't they just? I think I have a few Faller buildings - all 2nd hand and looking it - but, like Thistlebarrow, most of my war games architecture uis paper, cardboard, cereal packet and other oddses and endses.
ReplyDeleteBut there is just something about middle European architecture that has a presence all its own. If I had the space, I'd get some!
Cheers,
Ion
Archduke Piccolo (Ion),
DeleteI suspect that had I not had such a disaster when I tried to build a cardboard building years ago, I might also have ended up with a large collection of them.
The Faller and similar plastic model railway buildings do look great when they are constructed, and the sheer range of buildings available is huge. Over the years I’ve put together quite a sizeable collection, most of which are currently in a storage some miles away. I’d love to have the space to use them all, but don’t. That said, there’s no way I’ll be getting rid of them soon.
All the best,
Bob
Definitely looks like a nice bit of kit, and eminently suitable for your Belle Epoque ImagiNations. And a fun distraction/pastime.
ReplyDeleteFitz-Badger,
DeleteIt is a very versatile collection of buildings … and I understand that it is still available to buy from Faller!
All the best,
Bob
They are lovely models for sure and you certainly got a bargain there Bob!
ReplyDeleteSteve J.,
DeleteI’ve begun work on them, and the quality of the kits is amazingly good … especially for the price.
All the best,
Bob
This should add to the look and atmosphere of your the table.
ReplyDeleteRoss Mac,
DeleteI do hope so.
All the best,
Bob
