Both hardback and softback editions of The Portable Colonial Wargame are now on sale on Amazon ... but the hardback is 'Temporarily out of stock'!

Amazon are now listing both hardback and softback editions of THE PORTABLE COLONIAL WARGAME for sale ...

... but the hardback edition is listed as being 'Temporarily out of stock'.

Amazon states that customers can:
'Order now and we'll deliver when available. We'll e-mail you with an estimated delivery date as soon as we have more information. Your account will only be charged when we dispatch the item.'
They are even offering the book at a discounted price ... by knocking a whole 2p off! This sort of offer is bound to push up sales ...

Sure ... but some gift horses are better than others!

  2. It appears that Amazon are "prioritising" sales of "essential" items such as face masks, monitors and toilet roll! I think part of the method used is to mark lots of books as "unavailable" so that people are unable to order such items.

    1. Neil Patterson,

It would appear so, although I know of some people who ordered the paperback edition from Amazon and got it in a matter of days. Perhaps if they get some orders for the hardback edition, it will become available.

  3. Bob,

Who prints the copies sold by Amazon? If Lulu pass the digital print file to Amazon then this is clearly Amazon's fault - at least if they've received the file - but if Lulu prints them (as one might hope as these are the versions of the books for which you've given approval) then how can we apportion the blame? Lulu took 8 days to dispatch my order of the paperback version and it could well be that staff sickness - or other reasons - could be delaying printing and dispatch, whether to individuals or to Amazon. Presumably they would need an order from Amazon before they'd print and send the books?

As for Amazon prioritising essentials, my impression was that this was to create room in their warehouses for higher stock levels of those essentials and to provide staff to receive their delivery but that the restrictions on accepting non essential goods, and in particular of books, had since been rolled back.

    1. Mike Hall,

You pose an interesting question. I was under the impression that Amazon had their own ‘print on demand’ facility, and that Lulu.com supplied them with digital files that Amazon used to print and bind the books that they sold.

Amazon certainly did prioritise the storage and distribution of essential supplies in the first weeks of the lockdown, but as the situation has stabilised, they seem to be ramping up the sales of non-essential goods.

      Keep safe and keep well,

      Bob

  4. Received my copy of The Colonial Portable Wargame from Amazon yesterday! Wasn't supposed to get here for another week or so. I read through much of it last night and it looks great. Can't wait to try out all the new things in it and set up a small campaign to try it all out. You always have great material.

I’m very pleased to read that your copy of my book arrived so quickly from Amazon, and that you’ve enjoyed reading it. I do hope that you also enjoy using the rules, and that your campaign goes well.

      All the best,

      Bob
