The Portable Wargame Compendium ... is being proof printed!

Yesterday I finally drew a line under any further work on the forthcoming PORTABLE WARGAME COMPENDIUM and uploaded the text to Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). There were a few minor problems that needed to be solved, but these just took a bit of time and some effort on my part to sort out. Once that was done, I saved the book in draft form and ordered some printed proof copies. These should be with me by the middle of next week, and once I have checked them, I will release the book for publication.

The cover of the paperback edition looks like this:

They will be printed in colour and the final price will be about £20 for the hardback and £14 for the paperback. I’m still looking at how to make the book available in PDF format as KDP does not support the sale of books in that format.

    1. Simon,

Cheers! I may ell have to set up some form of PDF distribution system myself as quite under standardly, Lulu.com won’t handle a publication that is being painted and distributed by KDP.

      All the best,

      Bob

    2. I don't know what the anticipated demand is but would it work if people just PayPal'd you money and you e-mailed it back? Cheers Simon

    3. Simon,

Thanks for the suggestion. I was coming to the conclusion that something along these lines might be the most sensible solution.

I had one or two minior but time consuming problems towards the end of the process, but once these were dealt with, everything else went swimmingly.

      All the best,

  3. Based on the pre publication interest I think it will do very well.

There does seem to be quite a bit of interest, and I hope that converts into sales.

  4. Oh boy, I can't wait to see this in print. This will be my third time getting my name and work in a game. I was proofreader for a game called Forlorn Hope, an RPG named Rogue Space and now a PWG book.
It doesn't pay the bills but seeing your name in print has an air of legitimacy.

    1. Mr. Pavone,

Your name is on the book’s cover and should also be listed on the relevant Amazon page when the book is published.

      All the best,

      Bob

Thanks for doing this. The errors came about because I was rather tired by the time I added the text to the boxes on the cover, and my attention span was pretty well exhausted.

      All the best,

  8. Wunderbar! I look forward to reading it. If you're looking for feedback on the cover, and you haven't already changed it, I'd suggest making the final paragraph a little wider so that the word "Compendium" can fit on the first line. That way you will avoid the overly-large gaps in the 1st line in that paragraph. Also adding a couple of spaces before the words "English Civil War Wargame Rules" would align it with the other text and not the bullet-points. Anyhoo, all the best with it!

    1. Donjondo,

Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately, the cover design program will not allow me to change the size or position of the text boxes. Likewise, if I try to add spaces to align the text as you suggest, it doesn’t work; I know, because I tried to do what you suggest.

      All the best,

      Bob

I may try to improve the cover design before I publish the book.
