The Portable Wargame Compendium: The current state of play

I have been continuing to work on the PORTABLE WARGAME COMPENDIUM as and when I have felt well enough to do so, and I think that I have reached a stage where I will have completed the first draft by this time next week. At present, the contents look like this:

I do need to add a couple of battle reports and some biographical details for Mark Cordone, Marc Pavone, and Mike Taber, but once that is done, the draft will be complete and can go out for proofreading. Once that is done, I will publish the COMPENDIUM.

    1. Donjondo,

Judging by the response I’ve had to this post and one on Facebook, the idea does seem to have attracted a lot of support.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. Bob,
It looks like there will be plenty of interesting reading in the Compendium - hopefully the first of many.
    Best wishes, Arthur

I have already received ideas for a second compendium, so this may well the the first of a series.

    1. Krhysd,

Cheers! If I was feeling fully fit, I would have finished it by now and it would have been published … but real life has unfortunately got in the way of ambition.

      All the best,

      Bob

    3. Mark Cordone,

No thanks needed. Without you we would not have made the quantum leap that is the FP3x3PW.

Although I cannot do a great deal each day, being able to spend an hour or two on my hobby helps me to cope.

  8. I'm honored you included me. I'll knock out a battle and dispatch for it tomorrow. Just let me know what you'd like as far as biographical info.

    1. Mr. Pavone,

Thanks for doing that for me.

As to your biographical details, what I’d like is a paragraph about how you got into wargaming and your main areas of interest.

      All the best,

      Bob

  9. Bob -
It's looking like a very fine 'bedside companion' book! I had hoped to contribute something (I have just sent an email), but by the looks I might be too late for this edition. I'm not yet ready to supply a 'finished' contribution. Maybe 2nd edition.

A thought has occurred to me that I would like in some way some of my earlier PW efforts to appear in one of the compendium volumes - Long Live the Revolution (still one battle short of completion), Medifluvian Campaign and the Blacklands War. Unfortunately, the Darkest Aithiops campaign ran into a COVID brick wall, and hasn't recovered from the impact. The Vales of Lyndhurst has unfortunately vanished into the cybervoid, by the look. I doubt if I can ever revivify that story.

Whether or not my ego gets to be stroked by seeing something published, I'll be buying the book anyhow. There will be plenty on enjoyment to be had by the look!

    Cheers,
    Ion

Cheers! You might be too late to contribute to this issue, but I hope that you will do so to the next one. (I am already planning to publish a second Compendium in due course!).

I would love to feature examples of your work in future Compendiums as I have found your campaigns particularly exciting to follow as well as inspirational.

      All the best,

      Bob

Closer to publication date I’ll send you a PDF of the Compendium so that you’ve got some ideas about the sort of layout I am aiming to achieve.

      All the best,
