Amazon was very fast off the mark when I approved THE PORTABLE WARGAME COMPENDIUM for publication, and the printed paperback edition is now available to buy online. Furthermore, the Kindle edition is available for pre-order for publication on 28th April.
The hardback edition will be available to purchase once they have been printed in Europe and shipped to various Amazon warehouses.
I am still trying to find a way to make a PDF edition available. One avenue that I am exploring is distributing it myself. If I do, I will ask buyers to contact me on a dedicated email address, and then bill them using a PayPal invoice. Once that is paid, I will email a copy of the PDF to the purchaser.
Good news Bob - and I will be very happy to try out the pdf ordering process! Will the price be the same as the Kindle?
ReplyDeleteKind regards
Simon
Simon,
DeleteI’ll write a blog post one I’ve sorted out a way to distribute the PDF edition. The price will be the same as the Kindle.
All the best,
Bob
Great, well done Bob, particularly considering your recent ill health.
ReplyDeleteMartin Rapier,
DeleteCheers! Working on the Compendium helped me to cope, although there were times when I found it difficult to concentrate.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob, I hope this finds you well (despite your recent tribulations). I've just ordered my copy and was surprised to see that the hard copy was out before the kindle! I don't doubt that it will be as entertaining and informative as your other PW publications.
DeleteAll the best,
Take Care,
Tony.
Tonyjones (Tony),
DeleteThanks for asking about how I’m doing … and the answer is that I’m coping.
Amazon led me to believe that the printed books wouldn’t become ‘live’ until the middle of this week, and I timed the launch of the Kindle edition accordingly.
I hope that you enjoy the Compendium when you read it.
All the best,
Bob
Great! Tempted by the kindle but a pdf is much easier to print chapters from, so i think I will wait in hope :-)
ReplyDeleteFr. Dr. John N D’Alton,
DeleteI hope to get the distribution of the PDF sorted out over the next couple of days, so the chances are that you won’t have to wait too long.
All the best,
Bob
PS You could always add the users name as a watermark on the pdf then if anyone does scummbaggery and passes it around you will know who! :-)
ReplyDeleteFr. Dr. John N D’Alton,
DeleteI’ve done that in the past, and it has proven to be a very effective deterrent.
All the best,
Bob
Great news Bob, I have just ordered my paperback. Paul
ReplyDeletePDL,
DeleteChers! I hope that you enjoy reading it when it arrives.
All the best,
Bob
According to Amazon UK the hardback is "in stock" and will arrive on Friday if I order within the next 17 hours, while I only have to wait until Wednesday for the paperback. Decisions, decisions: paperback + Kindle or hardback? What do I spend my £20 on? Maybe hardback + Kindle is best?
ReplyDeleteMike Hall,
DeleteThat is great news … especially as I could not order an author’s copy when I tried!
Ihopethat you enjoy reading the Compendium when it arrives.
All the best,
Bob
Congratulations on the release of the compendium! I look forward to reading it come payday.
ReplyDeleteRegards PDFs, I'd recommend using a 3rd party service for this such as the websites www.wargamevault.com or www.itch.io - otherwise I think you'll be liable for VAT on digital sales in all countries that it's bought in. However if you use a 3rd party, then they take care of the VAT on your behalf.
Donjondo,
DeleteCheers … and I hope that you don’t have to wait too long before you are able to get a copy.
Thanks for the suggestions. You are the second person to suggest using the Wargame Vault, and I intend to investigate this later today.
All the best,
Bob
That was quick! Needless to say, a copy is winging it's way to me as I type.
ReplyDeleteBarry Carter,
DeleteAmazon KDP was quicker than I expected. I hope that you enjoy reading the Compendium when it arrives.
All the best,
Bob
Well done!
ReplyDeleteHopefully you'll be ready to publish an updated version a decade from now.
Ross Mac,
DeleteI suspect that the next Compendium will be along in about six months.
All the best,
Bob
That was very quick!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to getting a copy in the near future - I might wait for the HB.
Maudlin Jack Tar,
DeleteIt appears that the hardback is now in stock … and I didn’t expect that for at least a week!
All the best,
Bob
Great news! May your sales exceed expectations.
ReplyDeleteMark Cordone,
DeleteIt will be interesting to see how many copies sell.
All the best,
Bob
Just ordered my own paperback copy and I'll definitely get a PDF as soon as it's available. Like Mr. D'Alton said, it's nice to be able to print individual pages to make quick reference charts from a PDF.
ReplyDeleteMr. Pavone,
DeleteI’m currently waiting for Wargame Vault to get back to me about distributing the PDF edition of the book. As soon as I have an answer, I’ll let people know via my blog,
All the best,
Bob
Congratulations on publication of the Compendium; I too hope you will be able to arrange a PDF version. I've had good experiences with Wargame Vault myself.
ReplyDeleteDon,
DeleteCheers! With luck, Wargames Vault will undertake the sate and distribution of the PDF of the Compendium.
All the best,
Bob
As a buyer I have had very good experience of using Wargames vault.
DeleteSimon
Simon,
DeleteThanks for the endorsement of Wargames Vault. I’m still waiting for them to reply to my enquiry.
All the best,
Bob
I'd happily buy a PDF. While I'm happy with Kindle, one thing it struggles with is printability. I would agree on using Wargames Vault, have bought plenty of games both war and RPG thru them.
ReplyDeleteJennifer,
DeleteI'm still waiting for Wargames Vault to get back to me, but I have high hopes that they will act as a distributor for this PDF as well as some of my other books that are not currently available in that format.
All the best,
Bob
I am sure we can all wait patiently as it may take a bit to set up!
DeleteSimon
Simon,
DeleteI’m still waiting, but I remain hopeful that the Wargames Vault will be able to distribute the PDF.
All the best,
Bob
Mine just arrived - Bob, may I say congrats on excellent presentation, and pressing on despite troubles and tribulations. Thanks to you and ALL the contributors.
DeleteMartin S.,
DeleteIt’s great to read that your copy has arrived … especially as I’m still waiting for mine.
I hope that you enjoy reading the Compendium as much as I enjoyed putting it together … and I am already planning to edit a second one!
All the best,
Bob
