The Khakistani ironclad battleship

It took me less time than I expected to build my model of the Khakistani ironclad battleship and to paint it.

The colour scheme I chose was similar to that on the other ships I had modelled, and featured a black hull, beige upperworks, and an ochre funnel.

Thanks very much for you complimentary comments. I think that it is probably the best of the models I’ve built so far.

      All the best,

  2. Hello Bob,

That is lovely looking for sure! I really like the barbette gun design you have opted for - very simple and effective and cunningly assembled and yes, I shall be, ahem, borrowing the idea….:-)

    All the best,

    1. David Crook,

I was very pleased with the way this model turned out ... and the design of the barbette and guns is based on the design you used for the guns on your ACW models ships. Simple, but nonetheless effective,

      All the best,

      Bob

  4. BOB,
Great work on your modelling of the Ironclad- it certainly does have a charm all about it and will fit in very well with your other era Battleships- nicely done. Stay well there. Cheers. KEV.

I tried to get the look of the toy tinplate ship of the period, and I don't think that I did too bad a job of it.

The models are now 'in harbour' (i.e. in one of my display cabinets) await their call to arms.

      All the best,

      Bob

Many thanks for your kind comment.

I find that making and painting these models helps to keep my mind occupied and helps to alleviate my pain and discomfort.

  8. I kike the barbette guns as well, did you find them carved that way or did you shape them yourself?

    1. Mr. Pavone,

The barbette guns are simply a pre-cut disc of wood, on top of which I glued a strip of basswood (the slide), a small block of basswood (the breech cover), and a short length of 4mm wooden rod (the gun barrel).

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Tradgardmastare,

Cheers! The models I have built are all very simple to construct. Have a look at the following to see get some idea how I made some of my earlier model warships:
