The portable wargame ... gets its own website!

I have been pondering how to make copies of my PORTABLE WARGAME rules available to anyone who would like to download them. In the end – after several false starts – I decided to create a website that would link to downloadable copies of the rules. The website is called THE PORTABLE WARGAME WEBSITE, and at the moment it has copies of the latest draft of the late nineteenth century version of my PORTABLE WARGAME rules available to download in both Word 2003 and PDF formats.

It is my intention to add further information including any additional rules that are developed by me and by other wargamers.

  1. Bob,

I've added a link to the Portable Wargame site among the "Websites of Interest" section of the "Emperor vs Elector" group blog (of which I'm Imhaber).

  2. Bluebear Jeff,

Many thanks for adding the link.

Setting up a simple website seemed to be the best way to enable people who were interested in the latest developments of the 'Portable Wargame' rules to be able to download the most recent draft.

    All the best,

    Bob

  3. Bob,
An excellent idea! The portable wargame concept deserves its own site (a yahoo group next?).
I hope to contribute some variants myself in the not too distant future. Perhaps we could persuade John Curry to publish a book of portable wargames - in a highly portable small format, of course!
Might I suggest - if/when you have time and energy - also putting some of the significant earlier versions on the website too, so readers can both follow the progress of the development of the game and, perhaps, base their own derivatives on such versions if they feel it appropriate.
    Regards,
    Arthur

  4. Arthur1815,

We seem to be thinking along similar lines!

I had it in mind to make the earlier versions of the rules available for people to access, as they can then see how they have developed and can choose an earlier version as the starting point for their own developments, should they want to.

As to a book ... well I hope to talk to John Curry about a project along those lines when I see him at COW2011.

In the meantime, if you have any ideas for developments and/or variants of the rules, please let me know.

    All the best,

    Bob
