After a lot of ‘should I?/shouldn’t I?' thinking, I have finally decided to go to SALUTE 50 on Saturday.
There’s nothing specific that I want to see or do when I’m there, but I’m hoping to meet up with as many of my fellow bloggers and regular blog readers as possible …so if you’re going, look out for me. I’ll be the old, confused-looking bloke wandering around on his own, probably with my bridge camera to the fore.
Trouble is, other than type of camera, you've just described me.
ReplyDeleteRob Young,
DeleteI suspect that it’s a description that matches quite a few wargamers of the older generation.
All the best,
Bob
Going to wargame shows - if without an explicit purpose of gaming or buying something - always is a good way to recharge one's wargaming mojo.
ReplyDeletePhil Dutre,
DeleteOver recent years, I’ve found them to be a great way to chat with wargamers I have met online.
All the best,
Bob
Hi Bob, I will be going along and will look out for you, it would be great to meet and chat! Maybe Postie's Rejects will do their usual 'blogger meet-up' - Ray, are you out there?
ReplyDeleteAfraid not this year David. My darling wife has sorted something else for me go do, that day of all days! BigLee is going along though. He's the only Reject going.
DeleteDavid in Suffolk,
DeleteI look forward to seeing you on Saturday.
All the best,
Bob
Ray Rousell,
DeleteThat’s a pity … but it happens to all of us.
I look forward to seeing Big Lee and having a chat with him.
All the best,
Bob
Ray, sorry to hear that, but ( I hope ) marriage is more important than hobby! I was going to be cheeky and ask if you would bring a brigade of your 2mm Almanza figures for a 'show and tell'.. another time!
DeleteBob, maybe you would consider stepping into Ray's shoes and suggesting a time and place in the hall for a 'bloggers meet-up'? Choose a time that suits you, of course - with 400+ followers you are bound to get a good response..
p.s. Bob, if you don't fancy my suggestion then no worries, just don't publish the comment - I don't mean to put you under any pressure. I will look out for you at the show, anyway!
Delete[ and no need to publish this one either, of course! ]
David in Suffolk,
DeleteYou are spot on about family coming first.
We have a blogger meet-up before, and I would love to do something like that this year. Might I suggest 1.00pm somewhere central inside the hall. I don’t have a plan of the hall to hand, but I’ll have a look later tonight and write a blog post tomorrow.
All the best,
Bob
David in Suffolk,
DeleteI have just posted a blog entry suggesting a time and place where we could me at SALUTE 50.
All the best,
Bob
thanks Bob, I look forward to seeing you ( and maybe others ) there!
DeleteDavid in Suffolk,
DeleteSee you there on Saturday!
All the best,
Bob
I hope you enjoy the show Bob. I haven't been since before Covid and didn'y enjoy the last visit, which I used to combine with a trip to see friends in London. For me it was too big, too noisy, too busy and mainly aimed at shopping with some games thrown in. There were several empty tables which didn't help things. I much prefer Partizan or Colours.
ReplyDeleteSteve J.,
DeleteI haven’t been to SALUTE for some years. I don’t like the venue but as I can see it from the front drive of my house, it would very curmudgeonly of me not to go every couple of years, and now that it is only one stop on the Elizabeth Line from my local railway station, I can easily get there in less than an hours.
My main reason for going is to meet old friends and fellow bloggers … and I might even buy something.
All the best,
Bob
Personally prefer Partizan, but then it's just a bit over an hour away on the A17. Salute means meet our son (who promptly vanishes until about 4) and then watch the Marathon from Tower Bridge on the Sunday. Like the idea of a blogger's meet.
DeleteRob Young,
DeleteI've been to Partizan a couple of times, and it certainly was a good show. Nowadays, however, its just too far for me to drive there and back in a day and enjoy the whole thing.
As to the London Marathon ... well, I live close to the route, and on race day our lives are more than a little disrupted by all the traffic diversions, overflying helicopters etc.
All the best,
Bob
Bob, I can’t go, but a friend who’s going advised me that a pre-purchased ticket is £12 while on the door it is £20…big difference, and worth buying in advance.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day out
Martin S.,
DeleteThat is a big difference … and I’m glad that I bought mine in advance.
All the best,
Bob
