My latest Belle Époque army: The Army of Harabia

I have just completed my latest Belle Époque army … the army of the Sultanate of Harabia.

The figures began life as part of my 15mm Mahdist army. With the exception of the very large smooth bore cannon (which was originally a key ring fob bought from a museum!), the figures and cannons were manufactured by Essex Miniatures. I bought the figures ready painted, but over the years they have been touched up and partially repainted, and I am very pleased with the end result.

  1. Hello there Bob,

That little lot looks very impressive and I am sure will be up to no good in due course! Neat idea re the key fob cannon.

    All the best,

    DC

    1. David Crook,

It has turned out to be one of the strongest little armies that I have done so far. The huge cannon (AKA ‘The Voice of God’) is difficult to move but was built to intimidate enemies and to smash down the walls of their cities, it spends most of its time guarding the Sultan’s palace in Galla.

      All the best,

      Bob

  2. BOB,
Very nicely done on the Harabia Forces- they look great! It'll be interesting to see how they perform in the up and coming battles. Good to see you making head way with this Imagi-nations Project. Best Wishes. KEV.

    1. Kev Robertson (Kev),

I suspect that they will do well against the Sahel and even the Zubians, but that they will get cut to pieces if they face a modern army armed with powerful artillery and machine guns.

This project has enabled me to make use of all sorts of bits and pieces left over from other projects and to give me an excuse to renovate some of the older armies in my 15mm collections.

      All the best,

      Bob

  3. They look great! Glad to see you continuing to make progress on your projects. I'm hoping to be able to resume work on some of mine in the near future.

    1. Mark Cordone,

Cheers! They took longer to do than I expected because I wasn’t always motivated to do work on them due to our recent period of hot weather. As you yourself know, real life sometimes conspires to hamper our best laid plans.

      All the best,

      Bob

  4. A fine looking Army Bob.
I made a start on a mini-campaign using the rules you posted a couple of days ago. I hope to report on it soon but it's working well!

    1. Maudlin Jack Tar,

Cheers! I had hoped to have started my own mini-campaign using my campaign rules, but real life (and fatigue brought on by my drugs regime) has stopped me from doing so … yet! With luck, that situation should change over the next few days. In the meantime, I look forward to reading about your mini-campaign.

      All the best,

      Bob

  5. Love the cannon! I am sorely tempted to swipe from my library's copy of Risk for miniatures myself.

    1. Jennifer,

The cannon is painted to represent the Bhurtpore Gun (https://wiki.fibis.org/w/File:0003_Bhurtpore_Gun.jpg) that used to be on show at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich before it was moved to the Royal Arsenal site in Woolwich. My gun is nicknamed ‘The Voice of God’.

      All the best,

      Bob

    1. Martin S.,

Cheers! The Black Flag of Harabia is feared by the Zubians and Saheli, but less so by some of the other nations.

      All the best,

      Bob
